So after a long few days, she finally found out her results. SHE WAS NEGATIVE! Honestly such a relief. When I told both my bosses though, they both thought I was better of not working for 14 days just incase and fair enough. I stayed home mostly for the 14 days besides a beach trip where I stayed socially distant from everyone. The 14 days were long and boring and many of those days were spent in bed, I was so eager to work and pay back everyone. By now events were cancelling, Groovin the Moo, gone. Finally, my 14 days were over and I could work. I worked one birthday party at gymnastics and then the following week they had to shut to adhere to the social distancing rules. I was given some shifts at KFC which was good to still be getting out of the house.

Everything was closing, retail shops, recreational activities, gyms, food places. What a world we now live in. I was fearful of losing KFC as well because I didn’t think that fast food places could stay open, but I learnt that KFC is an essential service. The shopping centres were so quiet and only a few stores remained open like coles and woollies, Kmart and some food places in the food court. At work, I would just be on my phone all shift. I was extremely grateful to have a job to get me out of the house and still have an income.

The government announced in April they would up the job seeker payments and bring in another payment called the Jobkeeper. The government would pay businesses money to pay their staff even if they weren’t open and people couldn’t work. This money is such a blessing to everyone receiving it. The money is going back into the community and keeping lots of people financially stable. People are fighting back because it is a lot of money for a casual who might only earn $300 week and to now be getting more than double that a week, but again the money is going back into the community to small business to keep them afloat as well
Today (11/5/2020) Dan Andrews announced that stage one of reopening things will begin on Wednesday. This means we can see some friends, go to the beautiful beaches and national parks, go to funerals and weddings in moderation. Although we can do all this stuff we still need to take precautions like if we are feeling sick get tested and stay home and covering your mouth when you sneeze. Things will take a while to get back to the old normal, and I can’t wait to travel again for leisure, but at the moment ill just visit some of victorias beauties.

However, I have all my fingers and toes crossed that I will be granted an exemption to travel, in June. My camp in Maine is still running, and I am still preparing to travel in 6 weeks. I finished the last of my camps paperwork today and I looked at some flights and travel insurance. 3 people with CCUSA have now been granted a travel exemption and 1 of them is off flying today. This has given everyone hope that they too will be off to the US soon. I want people to be aware that this isn’t a holiday right now, I am flying over there to work for 9 weeks. The children in America have been in lockdown since mid-march, they haven’t seen their friends. This is why camps have been deemed an essential service over there, as they will help the children’s mental wellbeing. This is also why it is important that people who have been hired as camp counsellors still go and work.

My next update will come either while I am at camp or if I wasn’t granted an exemption to travel. Until then stay safe
